BBC Weather: 'BEAST' storm system to WHIP across Europe bringing HEAVY RAIN and snow

Weather said a low-pressure storm system is forecast to sweep across the continent bringing unsettled conditions for some parts of Europe. BBC Weather forecaster Susan Powell said central Europe would feel the brunt of the turbulent weather conditions, as she branded the weather system a “beast”. She said: “We are going to see some really big contrasts in the weather across Europe in the next couple of days.

“High pressure is now building in the west, that is going to settle things down significantly.

“There is also a bit of warmth underneath that across western Iberia meanwhile, this low-pressure system sliding down towards the Adriatic, looks like it could be quite a beast for Sunday.

“Even something of bora settling up to the north of the Balkans making things chilly, the rain will be particularly heavy, some fresh snow for the Alps.

“Still some heavier showers across eastern Turkey on Sunday but clearer skies generally for Greece, but there is our really heavy rain, we are talking about in this part of the world, courtesy of that low.

“But, then head to the west, 31C in Lisbon, well above the average for the time of year.

“Around average or just below the temperatures as we get up towards the UK and across Scandinavia, but the high-pressure settling things down very nicely here as it continues to build on into the new week.”

Moving into Monday, the BBC Weather forecaster said: “Look at that low stalled across central Europe, having a real knock-on effect on the temperatures across much of Italy and the Balkans.

“And those rainfall totals continuing to add up, with the risk I think in some places, of some flooding.”

Looking at the start of next week, Ms Powell said: “Plenty of sunshine though, courtesy of our high and plenty of fine weather to come for western Europe in the coming days.

“Looking pretty soggy for Moscow, but temperatures still managing to get up to 22C on Monday and Tuesday”.

It comes with the UK forecast to enjoy settled conditions for the start of the week with temperatures across Britain gradually increasing.

BBC Weather forecaster, Stav Danaos, said: “An improving picture gradually through this weekend.

“We’re going to see the high pressure building in and that’s going to kill off a lot of showers and produce more sunshine, so gradually the temperatures will rise.

“It’s certainly going to feel better than it has done of late. As temperatures rise into the afternoon, more showers will develop mainly on the eastern side of the UK.

“Plenty of showers in central and eastern parts of England. The odd heavy, maybe thundery one too, with the best conditions further west. We’ll see highs of around 15C, 16C, maybe 17C degrees. Through Saturday night it turns drier, a cold night across northern areas.”

He added: “As we head into next week we’ll still have high pressure with us, but we’ll also be tapping into something cooler across eastern areas. Further west will be drawing up warmer air from Biscay.

“So there will be this east-west contrast with some areas seeing wall to wall sunshine. The best temperatures will be in the northwest corner of the country where we could make the low 20s across parts of Scotland.”

Leading bookmakers have even slashed the odds to 1-2 on thermometers to nudge towards 25C next week in the UK.

Coral’s John Hill said: “We should be set for glorious sunshine next week and that is reflected in the betting as we are odds-on for 25C being recorded at some point during the spell of decent weather.”
