BREXIT LIVE: France PANICS over ‘nightmare’ no-deal scenario – This is ‘NOT GOOD’

Mr Pouch said it is paving the way for a “nightmare scenario” which would see major EU exporters to Britain “shut out of the UK market if duties rise”.

He told the Telegraph: “Given recent events, everyone anticipates a hard Brexit, and in that case there is a lack of preparedness due to the fact that we don’t know what customs duties the UK will apply as a WTO member.

“There are indications that customs duties will be upwards of 30 percent on dairy products, beef and sugar, for example.

“And on port, poultry, fish and grain, between 10 and 30 percent. But these are just estimations – we are sure of nothing.”

A quarter of the wine and beverages Britain imports are French, as are 23 percent of the potatoes and a fifth of its dairy products.

In a desperate effort to avert the anticipated backlog at ports, Maison Louis Latour is shipping 300,000 bottles of its Burgundy wine across the Channel in the coming weeks to tie its customers over until the chaos has subsided.
