’I’m good to go’ – 49ers star Jimmy Garoppolo provides injury update before training camp

Garoppolo only managed three games last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

His recovery from a torn left ACL has been a slow process but the 27-year-old insists he is ready to be fully involved in the 49ers’ training camp, which will take place on July 26.

“I’m sure hoping so,” Garoppolo told Pro Football Talk when asked about being ready.

“The training staff, the coaches, we’ve kind of put together a plan and everything like that.

“We’ll kind of assess the situation as we get closer to it.

“I’m good to go. Finally.”

Garoppolo’s return will be a boost to coach Kyle Shanahan who saw his side go 4-12 last season and finish third in the NFC West.

The pair will be under pressure to deliver this season, especially Garoppolo because of the huge pay package he was given when he made the move from the New England Patriots to the Bay Area.

The 49ers offered him a five-year deal in 2018, which saw Garoppolo given a $137.5million contract, with $74m guaranteed.

Garoppolo has only played in 26 games during his five seasons in the , with nine of them coming for the 49ers, but there is still many who believe that this could be his year.

The 49ers have taken care not to push Garoppolo too hard during his recovery and although he participated in some drills during the 49ers’ Organised Team Activities, he was wearing a brace over his left knee.

“The rehab process has gone really well,” Garoppolo said.

“Knock on wood. We haven’t had any setbacks.

“OTAs went about as well as I could have hoped for and now for training camp hopefully we’ll be full-go with team drills and all that stuff.

“We’re moving in the right direction.

“We’ve just got to keep going day by day and keep stacking them together.

“It’s a long process, but we’ve come this far, so why stop now, right?”

Shanahan has yet to confirm whether Garoppolo will be fully involved in 11-on-11 drills from the beginning of training camp, but the former Tom Brady back-up appears finally ready to get back on the field.
