Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho admits he wants ‘miracle’ amid Zinedine Zidane links

The Red Devils could only manage an underwhelming 2-2 draw with Southampton on Saturday.

Saints – who sacked Mark Hughes this morning – were 2-0 up against United after just 20 minutes.

Mourinho’s men came back to rescue a point from the south coast, but it was an abject display from the heavyweights.

In an outburst that will infuriate the Old Trafford faithful, Mourinho appeared downbeat about securing qualification for the Champions League.

When asked about his hopes for the rest of the season, he replied: “Try to win as many points as possible and try almost the miracle of finishing fourth.”

Mourinho appears on borrowed time at the Theatre of Dreams.

However, ESPN claim the club are still reluctant to axe the 55-year-old with Manchester United still in the Champions League.

United would also reportedly prefer to sack him at the end of the season in a bid to save some cash.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, continue to be linked with ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

The Frenchman is the bookies’ favourite to take over at Old Trafford should Mourinho get the chop.

His son Enzo has revealed his father was ready to return to management soon.

“We all know that my father loves football and loves to be a coach,” he told AS.

“For sure, he will be back soon. It’s his decision.

“Now he is taking advantage to rest, which he needed, because in the end being at Madrid was nice but hard, with a lot of work.”

Former player turned pundit Tony Cascarino reckons time is also running out for Jose Mourinho and has labelled him a ‘dinosaur’.

“We sometimes accuse the best players of falling into a comfort zone,” he told The Times.

“Well Jose Mourinho has been in a comfort zone for too long.

“Yes, he is one of the most successful modern-day managers but he is living off his own hype these days.

“All this holding up three fingers for his titles at Chelsea —so what?

“He’s nowhere near to winning the title now so stop living in the past.

“His team desperately need some fresh ideas and enthusiasm.”
