Manchester Ivy fire: Shock moment flames engulf city's newest restaurant – shock video

A video has have emerged of a huge blaze that took place at The Ivy restaurant in the Spinningfields area of Manchester. Frightening footage, taken from the ground floor of a nearby building, shows flames engulfing the roof of the restaurant with fire engine nearby.mA second clip shows the fire strengthening as plumes of black and grey smoke fill the sky. The video was posted by a Twitter user with the caption: “So The Ivy in #Manchester is on fire, it’s only been open a week…”

The user added in two separate tweets: “Just keeps getting worse at #theivy #manchester.

“Yeah it isn’t looking good…”

The flames that covered the rooftop have now been extinguished, after four fire engines raced to the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement: “The fire at The Ivy in Manchester City Centre has now been extinguished.

“Four fire engines from Manchester Central, Salford and Stretford and the aerial appliance from Stretford used three breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

“A ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke. Three crews will remain at the scene this evening to dampen down.”

Manchester Fire spokeman told Manchester Evening News: “I believe everyone has been evacuated and there have been no reports of any injuries.”

The extent of damage appears to be serious as the fire burnt through the building’s top floor.

Witness Paul Berry told MEN: “It looks like there’s an outside balcony area that is absolutely ablaze.

It looked like it was dropping down to lower floors.

“It grabbed hold very quickly from nothing, within ten minutes it was ablaze.”

The restaurant has only been open one month and the lavish launch party was attended by Manchester United players Ryan Giggs and Phil Neville, along with Coronation Street stars Alan Halsall and Antony Cotton.

It is spread over four floors, with the private dining room The Dalton on the first floor and The Ivy Brasserie on the ground floor.
