Kolasinac and Ozil

13:30: This whole situation is getting pretty serious y’know.

Two men have been charged over a security incident in connection with the Arsenal duo, who have been left out of the squad for today’s game.

The club said the players, who were targeted by car-jackers in north London last month, had been withdrawn due to “further security incidents”.

According to reports, the men were arrested after becoming involved in an altercation with security staff outside Ozil’s house.

#BoycottAshley

13:25: “Where has the money gone,” says the banner being marched outside St James’ Park this afternoon as the Mike Ashley protests continue.

A collective of ten Newcastle United protest supporter groups have threatened to boycott today’s game.

“By boycotting the game, we are demonstrating to a worldwide television audience that we are taking a stand against Mike Ashley’s continued mismanagement of Newcastle United football club,” said a statement from the group.

Twitter round-up

Tally: I’m really trying to stay positive for the new season despite seeing Granit Xhaka and Henrik Mkhitaryan starting. But just look at that bench…

Uche: Significant firepower on the bench for Arsenal if things don’t go to plan. Lacazette, Pepe, Luiz, Ceballos are great options to call on. Massive day for Reiss Nelson. Has to make a major impression if he wants Emery’s backing. Needs to play better than Mkhitaryan at least.

Ben: Bench is stronger than the team – how often have we been able to say that in the past decade?! But nonetheless I hope the boys smash it out there today.

Harvey: Jose Mourinho is just Blockbuster television.

You are correct Harvey.

Team news – Newcastle

13:20: Club record signing Joelinton starts for Newcastle. The £40million striker leads the line with Miguel Almiron in behind.

21-year-old midfielder Sean Longstaff also starts with new signings Allan Saint-Maximin and Emil Krafth on the bench.

Oh, and Andy Carroll isn’t fit enough to make the squad – but I suspect you already knew that.

Team news – Arsenal

13:15: Quite a few new faces through the door at Arsenal this summer – and not a single one makes Unai Emery’s starting XI.

The Arsenal boss goes with Socrates and Calum Chambers at the back, flanked by Nacho Monreal and Ainsley Maitland-Niles at full-back.

19-year-old midfielder Joe Willock starts in the No.10 role with Henrik Mkhitaryan on the right and Reiss Nelson, who impressed on loan at Hoffenheim last season, on the left.

New signings David Luiz, Gabriel Martinelli, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe start on the bench.

Elsewhere…

13:10: There’s another Premier league game kicking off at 2pm and that’s between Leicester and Wolves. One of those pesky Europa League schedule changes.

Here are the starting XI’s for that one.

Leicester XI: Schmeichel, Ricardo Pereira, Evans, Soyuncu, Chilwell, Ndidi, Perez, Tielemans, Choudhury, Maddison, Vardy.

Wolves XI: Rui Patricio, Coady, Bennett, Boly, Doherty, Dendoncker, Joao Moutinho, Neves, Jonny, Jota, Jimenez.

Powerhouse!

13:05: Well blow me down! Sky Sports have just started their coverage with Graeme Souness, Gary Neville and… Jose Mourinho!

The Portuguese tactician will be joining the panel until he gets himself a new job. And honestly – I love him already.

Asked who he thinks can realistically win the Premier League on Sky: “Four teams. Man City, Tottenham, Liverpool and Man City’s B team.”

He also asked himself the question: “Am I happy, happy, happy? Not really.”

Yesterday

12:55: What did you think about yesterday’s action then?

I think a few results and performances stood out in particular with Manchester City absolutely destroying West Ham 5-0 at the London Stadium.

They were frighteningly good if I’m honest.

Comprehensive wins for Burnley and Brighton, who thumped Southampton and Watford 3-0. Spurs not particularly impressive but were without a host of first-team stars.

Let me know what you thought through the usual channels. You know ‘em – Twitter, Facebook, Homing pigeon…

Afternoon

12:50: Hello folks and welcome to our LIVE coverage of Newcastle vs Arsenal from St James’ Park.

How’s everyone feeling today? I made the fatal error of playing catch-up with a few friends last night. Y’know – when you have to drink at double your normal rate and quickly realise you’ve made a terrible mistake.

Anyway, enough about my hangover.

You’re here to see whether it’ll be Unai Emery or Steve Bruce having a celebratory glass of sherry tonight.

The team news and line-ups will be dropping any moment now – so let’s get this show on the road. Standby…

NEWCASTLE vs ARSENAL – TEAM NEWS

Newcastle midfielder Matt Ritchie will be available provided he does not suffer a reaction to his return to training after a hamstring injury.

DeAndre Yedlin (groin) and striker Dwight Gayle (calf) remain on the sidelines along with defender Florian Lejeune (knee).

New head coach Steve Bruce could hand competitive debuts to summer signings Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin and Jetro Willems but Emil Krafth only trained with the squad for the first time on Friday while Andy Carroll is lacking match fitness.

New Arsenal signing Kieran Tierney (groin) will not make his bow while there are doubts over fellow recent recruits Dani Ceballos (ankle), David Luiz and Nicolas Pepe (both fitness).

Alexandre Lacazette has returned to training after an ankle injury but could also be absent, with Konstantinos Mavropanos and Emile Smith Rowe (both groin), Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding (both knee) and Mohamed Elneny (fitness) all likely to miss out.

Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire)
